AVAILON NORTH AMERICA FORGES STRONG PARTNERSHIP WITH DES MOINES AREA COMMUNITY COLLEGE
When the graduates from DMACC’s first Wind Power Program receive their Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degrees this summer, the transition from the classroom to the field will happen quickly for several new wind power technicians.
They will join Availon North America, a premier independent wind turbine service provider, which has been closely associated with the DMACC’s Industrial Electro-Mechanical Technology Department since the inception of the Wind Energy and Turbine Technician Program two years ago. The Program was created in response to the high demand for qualified technicians by the rapidly growing wind power industry in Iowa.
Dean Hoffman, Professor of Industrial Electro-Mechanical Technology and Chair of the Wind Energy program at DMACC, has worked with Availon North America management to ensure that the program’s curriculum reflects the actual operation and maintenance requirements of Iowa’s wind energy producers. Students have gained invaluable practical experience through their internships at Availon North America.
Regarding Availon North America’s recent hirings, Professor Hoffman commented: “Our state is leading the nation in wind energy production. We, as educators, are honored to do our part in providing highly qualified specialists to companies like Availon North America. I am sure the graduates who have been selected to work for Availon will make great contribution to the company’s future.”
John Boorman, Availon North America’s Director of Sales, said: “The graduates who are starting their wind industry careers with us are already receiving additional training so they’d be ready to actively participate in the fulfillment of contracts in Iowa. Availon will implement a critical upgrade to a number of wind turbines, and the DMACC graduates will be instrumental in seeing these projects through.”
