NO FEAR OF OVERHEATING
Availon provides rotor cable replacement for Vestas® MW generators
Availon, the leading independent provider of maintenance services for Vestas® turbine models V66, V80 and V90 2.0 MW, has extended its portfolio of upgrades.
Individual components of wind turbines are subjected to substantial stressing during operation. Analyses of failure data show that a considerable number of failures occur at rated output.
Recently, rotor cables of the generator have, in particular, been found to overheat, causing irreversible damage and significant losses in revenue. Overheating of the rotor cables can be diagnosed by a visual inspection, but by then, replacement of damaged cables is already inevitable.
Availon now offers rotor cable replacement for V80 and V90 2.0 MW turbines. Existing rotor cables are replaced with the latest generation of cables featuring a greater cable cross section. This upgrade guarantees improved stress resistance and therefore the smooth operation of the turbine, even during high-wind periods.
Special tools and working processes allow a cost-efficient replacement of the rotor cables directly in the turbine without the need for an external crane, and have been developed for this upgrade.
The upgrade for turbine models V80 and V90 2.0 MW is available immediately.
